- I also had this problem when I mistakenly bought a USR Sportster 33.6k
- internal modem last month. It's not just your modem that's broken, all
- USR Sportsters 33.6k with 10/1X.95 v1.1 firmware are broken and will
- respond with an error when given the "ATI11" command. Not only that, but
- they can't even get minor details right like the clock speed of the DSP.
- The "ATI7" screen reports 92 MHz when it should be about 23 MHz (look at
- the crystal oscillator on the modem). They must've hired monkies to do
- their QA. I also experienced performance problems and connectivity
- problems. Other people mentioned about the fax part being broken also,
- but I didn't keep it long enough to find that out. I'm not new to
- modems. I have several Cardinal MVP288I modems that work fine. I also
- have an older USR Sportster 28.8k (4/95 firmware) that isn't as
- problematic as the new 33.6k Sportster. I also had USR HST 9600 and
- large footprint v.32bis Dual Standard that I've given away.
